The “I Pledge Allegiance” Black history poster was designed by Lou Dorfsman and Ron Borowski. Originally created by Lou Dorfsman in 1968, this image was intended to promote a CBS series on Black history in newspaper advertisements. In 1970, it was released as a poster with the words “I Pledge Allegiance” added, omitting “one nation under God.” It was printed in 1970 by Starfish Productions in New York and later by Toppan Printing Co. in Japan in 1994 for the exhibition “The 100 Best Posters From Europe and the United States 1945-1990.
